Preparing Your Junk Car for Removal

Having an old and decrepit car on your property can be an absolute eyesore. However, if you thought you could simply offload it on the side of the road or in a public parking lot in hopes that someone else could make use of it for scrap or other uses, think again. It’s actually illegal in the state of Hawaii to abandon your car on public or private property. What’s a frustrated junk-car owner to do, then? If you need a junk car removed from your yard, we’re more than happy to come by and pick it up for a reasonable fee. Before we haul it off, though, here are four things you need to do first.

Remove All Valuables from Your Car

Before you give us a call, you first need to give your car a thorough once-over to make sure you haven’t left anything of value in it. Many people mistakenly leave all sorts of personal belongings, such as jewelry or even electronics, in their car. Don’t forget to check the glove compartment, either, as it can have important documents or other items in it.

Locate the Title

Before we can take your old junker off your hands, you have to demonstrate to us that it’s actually yours. While we doubt that anyone else would want to claim your junk car as their own, we still need proof of ownership before we can tow it off. To do this, you need to first locate the title. If you can’t find it, don’t panic. Instead, contact the City of Honolulu to see if they can help track it down for you. Also make sure you have its key on hand (if possible), as it will help facilitate our possession of your old vehicle.

Take off the License Plate

Just because you’re not planning on using your car anymore does not mean that you can leave the license plate attached to it. Because the license plate is proof of ownership, it’s important to remove it before you reach out to us. After all, you don’t need to demonstrate that the old clunker is yours after we drive off with it, right? Either keep the plate as a souvenir, or have it destroyed. It’s up to you what you do with it!

Cancel the Insurance

If you haven’t been driving your junk car for a while, you may have already canceled its insurance. However, if you haven’t, it’s important that you contact your automotive insurance company right away to confirm that the insurance has definitely been canceled. Failure to do so would lead to wasted money on your behalf, especially since your car will no longer need this protection.
